The Lock Gate House

Every time I saw this view I wondered what life was like in the gate house.

I imagined a coal fire burning brightly, a kettle boiling on the stove, a cat laying on the hearth rug, an old pendulum clock ticking on the wall and the gatekeeper asleep in a chair with a peaked cap jammed on the back of his head.

I hadn't looked inside - I just look at this picture and wonder.
